Free Birth Chart Calculator

A birth chart, also called a natal chart, maps the calculated positions of the Sun, Moon and planets for a birth date, time and place. This calculator uses the tropical zodiac and includes ten celestial bodies, Whole Sign houses and five major aspects.

Planet positions and angles are calculated astronomical information. Houses, zodiac divisions and their meanings belong to astrological traditions; their interpretations are not established scientific predictions.

The time and location determine the local horizon, including the Ascendant, or Rising sign. They also establish the houses. Enter the local clock time recorded at your birthplace; the calculator applies the time-zone rules for that date.

A small time difference can change the Ascendant’s degree, and sometimes its sign. Historical records before 1970 may be incomplete. Advanced settings let you correct the time zone or use a UTC offset supported by your records.

Choose “I don’t know my birth time.” Your circle shows colored arcs for the range of possible planetary positions throughout your local birth date. The symbols label those ranges, not exact positions. A planet near a sign boundary may have two possible signs, especially the Moon.

The twelve outer sectors are zodiac signs, not houses. We list only aspects that remain within our orb limits throughout the day. We do not substitute noon for your birth time or display an Ascendant, chart angles or houses.

Whole Sign is a house system in which each zodiac sign fills one house. The sign containing your calculated Ascendant becomes the first house, starting at 0° of that sign. The following signs become houses two through twelve.

The exact Ascendant is marked separately. The MC, or midheaven, is also a separate angle and does not always fall in the tenth Whole Sign house.

Aspects describe angular separations between planets. This calculator includes conjunctions (0°), sextiles (60°), squares (90°), trines (120°) and oppositions (180°). The orb is the allowed distance from the exact angle: 8° for conjunctions and oppositions, 6° for squares and trines, and 4° for sextiles.

An R means the planet’s apparent motion through the zodiac was retrograde at that moment. It does not mean the planet physically reversed its orbit. Read our retrograde guide.

First compare the entered local time, the UTC offset, the house system and the zodiac. A Placidus house chart will usually have different house boundaries from this Whole Sign chart. Sidereal zodiac positions also differ from tropical positions.

Small differences can come from astronomical models, coordinate conventions and rounding. We display degrees and minutes; the underlying Astronomy Engine aims for roughly one arcminute of accuracy. Results near a boundary deserve particular care with birth-time accuracy.

Calculation happens in your browser. Your date, time, coordinates and chart are not sent to a chart provider or included in analytics events. City search uses a GeoNames directory delivered by Zodiaris; the search text stays in your browser.
